SF Marathon 2024 — new PR
3:47:22. Two minutes faster than 2023. The fog burned off right before the Golden Gate crossing and I held pace all the way to Embarcadero. Couldn't believe the finish line came that quickly.

Day six in Tokyo. Shibuya at 2am is a different city — quieter but still humming. Found a kissaten in Shimokitazawa that does pour-over for ¥450. Spent three hours there reading.

Drove Big Sur to Mendocino over four days. Stopped wherever looked interesting, which turned out to be most places. McWay Falls at golden hour was worth every switchback on Nacimiento-Ferguson Road.

The cliff edge at Uluwatu at sunset was unlike anything. Watched the surfers below for an hour, then wandered into a temple ceremony by accident. Completely unplanned and perfect.

3:49:01. The wall hit at mile 20 and I nearly walked it in, but the crowd at Golden Gate Park pulled me through. Legs were shot for a week. Would do it again.

Hosted for the first time. Mom brought her cranberry sauce. Dad argued with Nate about AI. The turkey was actually perfect. Nobody fought, which was the real miracle.

First day. Spent the morning setting up, afternoon reading through the codebase. The team is smaller than expected — eight people — but the product makes sense. Strong gut feeling about this.

Accepted the offer this morning. Counter was better than expected. Start date March 6. Told Lena over dinner — she's more excited about it than I am, which helps.
Lena
Surprise dinner at Nopa. Priya kept her on her phone the whole time so she wouldn't see the setup. The cake had a tiny hand-drawn condor on it — inside joke from Pinnacles. She cried.

Three days in the valley. The fire near Wawona had closed some trails but we found our way around. Stood at Glacier Point for sunset on day two. No phone signal the whole time.

Drove to my parents' in Sacramento. Mom made too much food as always. Sam was there — we hadn't seen each other since the wedding. Stayed up talking until 2am.

1:52:30. Steady pace the whole way, no major wall. Ran past our old apartment on Grand Ave — it looks smaller than I remember. Ate an entire pizza afterward.

Made a commitment to write something every day, even if it's just a sentence. Not for content, not for anyone else — just to have a record of what this year actually felt like.
